"situational awareness"
Carrie at Carrie's Bar & Grill checks her ISP traffic more than I do, & all too often finds various .gov type sites looking in on her. Lest you think she's being overly paranoid:
(Reuters) - The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's command center routinely monitors dozens of popular websites, including Facebook, Twitter, Hulu, WikiLeaks and news and gossip sites including the Huffington Post and Drudge Report, according to a government document.
A "privacy compliance review" issued by DHS last November says that since at least June 2010, its national operations center has been operating a "Social Networking/Media Capability" which involves regular monitoring of "publicly available online forums, blogs, public websites and message boards."I'm not enough of a dupe to believe the monitoring is limited to only "dozens" of major, high traffic sites like Huffington, or social networks like Facebook. The Feds have computers searching keywords & word & phrase strings 24/7 across the interwebs. They're collecting our phone calls & text messages, too. Must have that situational awareness & common operating picture. It's not that difficult. I've retrieved via Wayback Machine lost writing from webpages I deleted years ago, floating out there in cyberspace.
The purpose of the monitoring, says the government document, is to "collect information used in providing situational awareness and establishing a common operating picture."

"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be." Thomas Jefferson
On the insane side, I find it odd that many "search" words or "referring" links that bring some of these .gov viewers to my site and benign, much like the one I recently posted where someone in a Texas Sheriff's Office used search words to find Cheech and Chong's Santa Claus song!
I also get hits from around the world, including Korea, Japan, Switzerland, Germany, Thailand and African countries, and all, again, searching for non-political stuff. I get a lot of hits from people using search words "Warren Wiebe Suicide" which, of course, relates to Warren Wiebe, a singer, that I remember most because he always sang the before every home game for the Los Angeles Kings (never did the national anthem, he sang America The Beautiful). He committed suicide in 1999 I believe (off the top of my head) and to this day, I have yet to find anything about how he did it, or even why. But I do link to his website and have some songs of his up. He was a David Foster protege (much like Josh Groban was back in his early days when he first appeared on Aly McBeal).
