The Chartmakers

The meaning of their gifts was
the tenderness with which they gave.
They gave their sadness also,
knowing his short life,
yet they traveled so far.

Their hearts were filled in return
with wonder, astonishment, love!
They were more than satisfied.
So they led their camels over the hills
by another way, back to the stars.

This poem may have come to me as an idea for belated Christmas card one could use until Jan 6, Three Kings Day. The Hispanic community sensibly celebrates this day as lovely way to end the Christmas season, rather than the bummer rip-down-the decorations ritual after New Year's Eve. It's also the old calendar Orthodox Christmas; tonight is Christmas Eve at the Russian Church aroundthe corner, so I expect to hear bells soon, The local Greek churches have adopted Dec. 25.
