John Adams
After reading David McCullough's biography, & watching the TV series, I'd still rather spend an hour with Thomas Jefferson at Monticello discussing any topic of his choosing than an entire day with John Adams.

"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be." Thomas Jefferson
Last summer I finished reading Walter Issacson's Benjamin Franklin: An American Life. Franklin, who enjoyed holding court with some of the brightest minds of Europe during his time spent across the pond (1776-1785), was not very pleased when John Adams was dispatched overseas to keep an eye on him.
I want to read that. Just read Gore Vidal's Inventing a Nation, which provoked my comment. Vidal is fun because he treats all the founding fathers like relatives. Of Franklin in France, his attitude is, well, he is Ben Franklin & it is France.
