The Longest Night

Sat., Dec. 22, 2007, 1:08 A.M. EST , marks the solstice. the beginning of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and summer in the Southern Hemisphere.

I hope a virgin was tossed in a volcano somewhere or the nights will just get longer & longer until the sun disappears altogether.

Comments:
One of my favorite children's books that I get to enjoy with my son is Long Night Moon by Cynthia Rylant and Mark Siegel. I just returned the book for what seems like the 50th time to the Rahway Library this morning. The book follows the full moon month by month and mentiones the names that American Indians gave to each full moon. Siegel's artwork gives the reader a panoramic view of a farm throughout the year and captures the moon and the landscape in quiet, soft-lit beauty.
