text2win TV

If you're awake in the New York City area between 2 & 3 am this week, turn on channel 11 WPIX & watch a few minutes of the interactive word game show Text2Win. It's like being stuck on a couch playing a party game emcee'd by an attractive young woman who unfortunately is also the most dim-witted & annoying person in the room. Switching around at that hour, you might also see the memorable playlet,"Carmine & Deb Call At-Home Carpet," where Carmine exclaims, "Dis is da most impawdent game a da yee-ah!" (I've been meaning to discuss in more detail this telling vignette of a contemporary Ralph & Alice.)

Comments:
I agree. Tara, the hostess of WPIX's tv game show, Text2Win, doesn't seem to be the brightest bulb in the pack. In fact, this morning she even blurted out the answer to a quiz. "I've never been to Hollywood!" she exclaimed, giving the answer away well before the end of the game. But, she is easy on the eyes. She has a cute "pooch" and bit of "muffin top."

As for Carmine and Deb. Carmine makes Ray Romano sound as if he took diction lessons from Henry Higgins. And Deb... well, she makes a better door than a window.

Giving a cue or answer must be part of the act, she did it Monday. The games are easy. Monday I kept the TV on, perversely fascinated. I had to google it to find a website. 4 games, each $500 prize. Tuesday I tuned in for last 10 minutes, 4 games, same money, but the show promoted the web site. That was all I needed to see.

One of the winning callers made me proud. When Tara asked him what he was going to with his 500 dollars, his response was: "Hopefully take you out to dinner and get to know you better."
