Keansburg NJ

Miniature Railroad & Steamboat Pier
Pier is still there, & a way to ride from one end to the other.

Bob where are you getting these vintage postcards from? Are they part of a collection you have?

You took the words right out of my snout, lil' doggie. I've been wondering about Bob's postcards for a while now.

I find them online. Occasionally, like this one, a collector's website, but most of are from postcard sellers. My favorites are simple, colorized pictures of factories, churches, & downtown businesses, some of which take on the emotional tone of Edward Hopper's peopleless paintings, that is, vaguely disturbing. There's such an abundance of Jersey shore postcards that it's difficult to choose. I like this one because it's probably the late 40s, the pier is still there, the people know they're in the photo & some of them no doubt are alive, & the Keansburg steamboat is in the background. It looks like a real steam engine. It's not ancient history to me.

But what will Liz say when you bring one home?

Then you'll just have to talk the City into letting you lay rails along the river bike path.
